What is a conversation? Going by definitions from Oxford, a conversation is a talk, especially an informal one, between two or more people, in which news and ideas are exchanged. Then why is it that we need resources (like this article) to tell us how to have a meaningful conversation?

Small talks are overrated and deep, powerful conversations are underrated. How many times, with how many people, have you been able to talk about your dreams, hopes, aspirations, problems? And how many people do you make small talks with daily? There is some difference between the numbers, if not a huge difference.

I believe I can make meaningful conversations with people I like and trust. Most of us can. But to be friends, I believe, we need to put in a little more effort than small talk. Here are a few articles I liked and hope that they can help you do better with how to have a meaningful conversation.

“A conversation is a dialogue, not a monologue. That’s why there are so few good conversations: due to scarcity, two intelligent talkers seldom meet.”

Truman Capote
